The Indie Game Contest is an annual tradition established by the Digital Designers Guild in 2011. In an effort to spotlight students that go above and beyond the essential educational requirements, DDG set up a contest that challenged students to produce a game based off of three set themes. The response was fantastic and the games that were produced as a result of the contest were fantastic. Some of the projects were so successful that some of the students received internships and paid positions at some of Baltimore’s local game development studios.
Even as we’ve expanded the event into a miniature convention, the Indie Game Contest remains the core of the experience, with each team’s game on exhibit for public view all day in the Business Center Atrium. The contestants that take part in the contest represent the best and most ambitious students in the University of Baltimore’s Simulation and Digital Entertainment program and it’s that kind of attitude that the Digital Designers Guild wants to encourage in our membership and in the general SDE student body!
